Handheld Barcode Scanner is one of the most recent innovation in making POS or point of sale scans as well as to instantly gain access to specific files in a database. So how exactly does a Handheld barcode scanner work? This contraption comes equipped with a light source, light sensor and a lens which is responsible for interpreting the optical impulses to electrical impulses. It reads the barcode image as the light flashes on it and transmits the interpretation to the output center, commonly a computer screen or a cash register.

It's time you tried a password storing finger print reader. Basically all consumer finger print readers work the same; you install the software and connect the fingerprint device. You then install the fingerprint reader into an available USB port, scan your finger (usually the right index finger), and now as you surf the web the software will ask you if you want to store the user id and password associated with that site.

How a Fingerprint Reader Works

Now the fun part, once you visit that site again in the future all you need to do is place your finger on the reader and it fills in those pesky user id and password fields for you. No need to ever forget or use the same password again.

How a Fingerprint Reader Works

So how does this all work?

Before we start it's good to know that this technology exists because we all have our own uniquely identifiable piece of information, our finger prints. While our forerunners did not develop this adaptation for password protection, more for gripping and holding, it's a nice side effect. Since each set of fingerprints in developed in its own way through thousands if not millions of environmental factors there is almost no chance that anyone has, has ever had or will ever had the same fingerprint as you; even if you are an identical twin.

So now the fingerprint reader just has to scan your finger and make sure all the ridges match, sounds easy right? Well, it does take a quite of bit of technology to actually make it work. First the scanner uses either an optical or capacitance scanner to take a "picture" of your finger using either light or electricity respectably.

They then "read" if what it's looking at is a ridge or valley and uses your computers processing power to compare the captured fingerprint with the fingerprints on file, from setup, in your system. They do this by using very complex algorithms and focusing in on the very fine parts of your actual fingerprint and comparing specific features called minutiae.

The scanner doesn't take your whole fingerprint into account when making a match; it just has to find some parts that match both the minutiae and the record of your print on file. Once the threshold of matches is reached voila you have access to that password protected page you wanted and you didn't even have to think about it.

Among the most common brands in the market for the Handheld Barcode Scanners nowadays are Symbol, Metrologic, Wasp, Adesso, TS, PSC, CCD, CK1, Intermec, Trakker, Datalogic, Standard and Informatics. Though there are a number of brands available, they come with different features for each piece. The weight alone vary, some weigh as little as 9 ounces while others weigh up to 3 pounds. Some are slim while others are more bulky, there are also some which are connected by USB ports and wires while others are wireless and are connected via Bluetooth. For Handheld Barcode Scanners which are wireless, the hand held scanner is powered by a battery; each fully charged battery can scan up to 20,000 scans or can stay on for up to 30 hours. The standard line or range is one hundred and sixty feet; although for some models, there is still room to be able to scan and store outside these lines for one to twelve inches away from the boundary by using the memory mode. For those models which are connected with wires to a station, these can normally extend for up to 5 feet which makes moving it around easier than that with a very short cord. These hand held scanners are now more usually featured with a plug and play feature via a USB plug; this will enable one to instantly connect the scanner to the port station without having to install it with a separate software.

Handheld Barcode Scanner Review - You Must Read This Before Buying a Handheld Barcode Scanner!

If one is to consider purchasing one of these , there are a few factors to consider to be able to make a wise decision. They would have to first identify the purpose of its use for them to be able to make the right decision. The first thing to consider should be what type of bar code will be scanned; there are two types; the 1 Dimensional and the 2 Dimensional barcode. A one dimensional barcode is that which is most common; these come in a series of vertical bars of different densities thus forming a rectangle. However, for codes which require more information, these are the 2 Dimensional barcodes which looks quite different and may seem like a small pattern, sometimes come in boxed images. The orientation of how the barcode will be scanned is another factor; the most common Handheld Barcode Scanner is the one which has linear beams; this is only effective when the scanner has been positioned to be perpendicular to the barcode.

Handheld Barcode Scanner Review - You Must Read This Before Buying a Handheld Barcode Scanner!

The other type is the omni Directional scanner; this is where the scanner is effective in scanning barcode regardless of the orientation of the barcode-may it be horizontal, diagonal or vertical, it will still be able to read and interpret the bars. If the scanner will be used in a specific station much like that of a check out counter, they can opt for the standard scanner which are wired and ported; however, for more versatile needs such as back room or inventory scans, the wireless version or the Bluetooth and memory mode featured scanners would be a better fit. Both the warranty and guarantee of the product will play an essential role in purchasing a scanner; if it will be used in a small scale purpose or business, an extended warranty or those up to 5 years or so may not be required; however for those Handheld Barcode Scanners which will be used in industrial environments and will require a huge number of scans and storage needs, those models with specified warranties which extend for long periods of time may be more essential.

What is the Best Portable Printer Scanner?

What is the Best Portable Printer Scanner?

If you want to know what the best portable printer scanner is, then all you have to do is look at the available models and decide what is best. Answering this question should be easy since there are only a few models of this kind of printer. Unfortunately, the available models do not have features that can be considered the best. They may have been considered the best at one time, but as of today, they are not.

http://farm9.static.flickr.com/8188/8112249686_af522de7d4_m.jpg

What is the Best Portable Printer Scanner?

The portable scanners and printers that we're talking about are Canon's BJC printers, BJC 50, BJC55, BJC80 and BJC85 to be exact. Do not be misled! These printers cannot do the job of a printer and a scanner at the same time. It is either a printer or a scanner at the moment. This is made possible by the optional image scanner cartridge. It takes the place of the ink cartridge so that instead of printing ink, it scans.

Scanner

What is the Best Portable Printer Scanner?

There are a lot of printer scanners, portable printing devices and portable scanners available in the market today. However, there are only a few portable printer scanners. The models mentioned before are pretty much the only portable models available in the market today and even they are already discontinued. After their production, Canon continued on concentrating on portable printers, accelerating its speed and enhancing their resolutions. However, they did not incorporate scanners into its design.

What is the Best Portable Printer Scanner?

What is the Best Portable Printer Scanner?

If you are to ask which the best portable printer is, then it will be easy. We have Canon's Pixma iP100, which currently holds the highest resolution of portable printers. We also have HP's OfficeJet H470, which prints at 22 pages per minute, which is also the fastest of the mobile printers. However, if you are to ask what the best portable printer scanner is, it will be hard to choose from the existing models since their performance is only a fraction of what the current printers can do.

The BJC series of Canon is capable of printing up to a speed of 5pages per minute in monochrome. In color, it can print up to a maximum speed of 2ppm. In terms of resolution, these printers can print up to a maximum resolution of 720 dots per inch. These are hardly what you would call the best speeds and it doesn't even include the scanning resolution. Scanners available in the market today are capable of scanning to a resolution of 9600dpi. The BJC printers from canon can only scan up to 360dpi.

It may have been a marketing choice for Canon not to continue in making portable printer scanners. However, with the continuous decrease of electronic goods and the continuous increasing demand of portable products, there is certainly a market for portable printer scanners that they have not considered. So for now, we have to settle for high performance portable printers and high performance portable scanners, not both in one package.

So let us go back to the question. What is the best portable printer scanner? Well, it doesn't exist yet.

Capital Budgeting in the Healthcare Industry

Capital Budgeting in the Healthcare Industry

Over the past few months, the proposed healthcare reform has been the subject of much discussion and the healthcare industry has come under intense scrutiny as a result of the administration's efforts to curtail the increasing cost of healthcare. As an offshoot of the increasing cost of healthcare now more than ever hospitals have been placed in a situation whereby capital budgeting has become a necessary tool; Not only for sustenance but mostly for survival. Absence of a sound capital budgeting policy might potentially spell disaster for hospitals because an increase in cost accompanied by a decrease in revenue negatively impacts the bottom line and when funds are limited, it is essential to have a game plan of how the funds are to be used otherwise the hospital might find itself in a precarious situation.

Capital Budgeting in the Healthcare Industry

Capital Budgeting in the Healthcare Industry

Capital Budgeting in the Healthcare Industry

Capital budgeting refers to the analysis of investMent alternatives involving cash flows received or paid over a certain period of time. More often than not, the best alternative is usually the one that yields the greatest cash flow over time. This point can be disputed because other hospitals might place much emphasis on non-monetary results. In such cases, the best alternative is usually the one that comes as close as possible to yielding results that catapults the hospital closer to its objectives. Capital budgeting is a complicated process in the sense that great care has to be taken in the selection process and competing forces makes it the more challenging. Where there is competition, the possibility of politics being a factor is heightened and politics often times has its drawbacks especially when the voice of the minority is drowned out by the majority or the louder voice.

In order to better understand how capital budgeting works in the healthcare industry, we'll explore three different scenarios that do play out every once in a while in most hospitals throughout the country. For instance, Human Resources propose a day care facility for employees with children. Justification being: turnover rate of employees will be minimized and more nurses will potentially be attracted to the hospital because of the day care services offered. Turnover is costly to the hospital. Therefore, even though the project does not increase revenue, the project will get to benefit the hospital through reduced costs.

The second scenario is the Imaging Services DepartMent proposes the purchase of an additional CT scanner to ease the bottleneck and the backlog of work in the departMent. Purchase of a scanner is quite costly and therefore, if the present one is functional is there a need for a second one? One might argue that the high demand for usage creates tension between employees, wear and tear of the machine increases maintenance costs, overtime pay for the technicians' increases overhead costs and the hospital is left vulnerable in the event that the current scanner seizes to function. These are all valid considerations. However, one wonders; does the total benefit exceed the total cost?

The last scenario is a group of doctors working for the hospital propose the purchase of a special machine that eliminates the need for in house hospitalization of patients. With the new machine comes the benefit of reduced hospitalization. With reduced hospitalization of patients, the hospital might be better placed to reduce variable costs associated with the use of the facilities and safety might be enhanced because the possibility of the hospital exceeding capacity will be greatly reduced by having fewer patients in the facilities. The only drawback is the massive costs involved. The machine requires a large capital outlay upfront. Therefore, in as much as the purchase sounds good, the other alternatives sound equally as good if not better.

Faced with the three alternatives, a financial manager in the healthcare industry should determine the opportunity cost of capital. Opportunity cost of capital works on the fundamental law of finance that states that a Dollar today is not the same as a Dollar tomorrow. Therefore, when analyzing the three alternatives, the time value of money should not be ignored because one might come to a wrong conclusion if one doesn't consider the time value of money in the analysis. Future cash flows are discounted to the present value using a stated interest rate. Once the present value of all the alternatives is established, then the alternative that yields the highest present value is considered to be the best option. This method of analysis is known as the discounted cash flow method and from a personal standpoint; this method should be used widely in the healthcare industry because it is guided by the important law of finance stated above. I acknowledge the fact that each hospital is unique and estimating the future cash flow is difficult in other instances. In this case, other methods should be considered. However, discounted cash flow method though imperfect at times should be given first priority if all else is clear and all the variables are known.

Instructions on How to Put Picture on Ebay

Instructions on How to Put Picture on Ebay

Like many folks, you have heard of online auctions. Heck, even non-Computer users have heard of Ebay. Everyone starts out as a bidder. The brave move on to be sellers. Little, by little, you learn the ropes.

Instructions on How to Put Picture on Ebay

Instructions on How to Put Picture on Ebay

One of those "ropes" that seems to always give people problems is working with their auction photo. Previous photo experience may have only been limited to the seller's children or pets. Suddenly, they find themselves wading thorough terms such as "pixel," "uploading," and "compression."

Sure, eBay has tutorials, but it's not the whole story. Isn't it frustrating that "help" files are always "streamlined?" Doesn't it seem like the step-by-step details are missing? I pondered this one day, trying to look through the eyes of someone who's never heard of "image hosting" before.
For example, did you know that there are 5 screens that you have to pass through before you get to the screen for uploading your pictures to Ebay? Did you know that you can practice uploading pictures without making an actual auction listing? I'm sure you feel braver already!

Just make your way to the fifth screen and don't continue after that - (because the listing was not completed, it will not be listed. If you go to sell a real item, your "mock" listing will be there - your choice will be to start a new listing or finish your last (mock) listing - ...starting a new listing will delete any drafts or "mock" listing.)

I bet you're really mixed up when you find out there are 3 choices when you get there: "ebay picture services," "basic picture services," and "picture manager." Who wouldn't be confused? I clearly outline these choices in my free online auction tutorials including which one you need and why (hint: it's not the same for every person).

The instructions for how to put picture on eBay can be found here:
http://www.auctiontongue.com/com_ebay/instructions_on_how_to_put_picture_on_ebay.htm
eBay suggests that there are four ways to "capture" your digital photo for your auction listing: digital camera, regular camera and scanner, film-to-digital image service, and video camera and VCR tape - that's where eBay leaves you hanging.

Please don't give up yet! Remember - we're all in this big internet mess together, and together we'll figure it out. There's no way around learning to use your digital devices, except sitting down and reading the owner's manual. From there, you may find additional help on the internet. You have to do your part, first.

If you decide to buy a digital camera, read my "How to Buy a Digital Camera for Auction Use" http://www.auctiontongue.com/com_ebay/index.html It tells precisely what features you need to look for and what will cause you trouble.

If you do buy a digital camera, it's a whole other story getting the image onto the Computer. I thought you would enjoy some step-by-step photos of that process, too, so I included them at http://www.auctiontongue.com/com_ebay/index.html

If you have a regular camera and scanner, or a friend has a scanner, try my tutorial "Scanner overview." I even put together "Navigating Your Computer" so anyone could find and locate their auction pictures with ease.

I hate to tell you this, but there's more for you to worry about. Ever go to an online auction and you wait and wait for it to load and nothing happens? Usually the culprit is a large file-sized auction photo. It's the number one mistake beginners make. It makes your auction look unprofessional. The chances are slim anyone will hang around to place bids at that auction.

What's that? Do I have a tutorial to solve that? Why yes I do! If you can't tell already, I like helping people learn about the internet. I like to see people getting excited about their auctions. Believe me, your despAir will be short-lived, and you will soon be an auction pro with some great auction stories to tell.

- See you at the Auctions - Renee from AuctionTongue

Online Driver Scanner - How to Select the Best Device Driver Scanner

Online Driver Scanner - How to Select the Best Device Driver Scanner

Looking for the best online driver scanner to update your device drivers? Manually searching on the internet for a single driver is a time-wasting, skill-demanded task. Using a device driver scanner, also called driver updater, is an easy and quick way to get the latest drivers for your hardware.

Online Driver Scanner - How to Select the Best Device Driver Scanner

Online Driver Scanner - How to Select the Best Device Driver Scanner

Online Driver Scanner - How to Select the Best Device Driver Scanner

Online Driver Scanner - How to Select the Best Device Driver Scanner

Online Driver Scanner - How to Select the Best Device Driver Scanner

But if you enter the words "best driver updater" and search with Google, you will get hundreds of results. Which one is the best? In the article, I will tell you the criteria to separate good driver scanners from the incompetent ones.

What I attach great importance to is the system compatibility of the programs. You should know that a certain device has a variety of different drivers for different systems. If you are using Windows 7 operating system, you will never want to install drivers that are programmed for Windows XP or Vista. If you install a driver scanner that doesn't support Windows 7, it will install XP drivers for your devices. What will happen next? It would just like you drive a car on the right of a roadway!

Troubles will follow. Your devices will not work properly; you Computer will has no sound at all; your printer will not respond; etc. In a worst case, your Computer will crash down. So you must make sure your systems are supported by the driver scanner before you install it on your computer.

The second important criterion to differentiate between good scanning software and the incompetent is the number of driver entries the software has. The more entries the software has, the more devices can be supported.

There are many driver scanners on the internet, but some of them don't have adequate drivers to support all the PC devices and portable devices. The acknowledged number of drivers that can support 99% devices from all manufacturers is 100,000. If the scanner has no more than 100,000 drivers, you could weed it out from your selection list.

Apart from system compatibility and driver number, you should give close attention to the scanning effectiveness of the software. When the driver scan software returns the scanning report, you should check out that if all the models of devices on your computer are correct.

Some low-quality device driver scanners can not precisely detect all the models of computer hardware. What is worse, they may download and install wrong or outdated drivers on your computer. The consequence of installing a wrong or outdated driver is severe. Your device will not work properly and your computer can crash. So you need to carefully check out the scanning effectiveness.

The aboveMentioned eleMents are what you should give your attention to. You can compare one by one and phrase out incompetent ones.

The Check Engine Light How to Reset and Turn Off the Check Engine Light

The Check Engine Light How to Reset and Turn Off the Check Engine Light

It used to be easy to reset and turn off the check engine light. For vehicles manufactured and sold prior to 1996, there are a few cheap and easy fixes. One popular fix is to disconnect the negative terminal on the battery and turn on the headlights for ten to fifteen minutes. Draining the power in the car's capacitor will also reset the Computer and turn off the check engine light.

The Check Engine Light How to Reset and Turn Off the Check Engine Light

The Check Engine Light How to Reset and Turn Off the Check Engine Light

The Check Engine Light How to Reset and Turn Off the Check Engine Light

The Check Engine Light How to Reset and Turn Off the Check Engine Light

This may be popular but it's not really a good idea. For one thing, it will clear the presets on your car radio, clock and anti-theft devices. It will also clear the memory performance from the car's Computer, which it will have to "re-learn" over the next forty or so driving trips. You will suffer both poorer driving gas mileage performance and lose while it does so.

A similar cheap andeasy fix is to find and pull the fuse to the ECU (Engine Control Unit). This has the same disadvanTAGes as disconnecting the battery.

A better idea-especially for cars sold in the U.S. from 1996 to the present-is to read the owner's manual. In some cases the manual will tell you how to reset the check engine light, usually through a series of prescribed pedal pressing and button pushing and so on.

Most often, however, the manual will give you the sage advice to take your vehicle to an authorized dealer.

You can take your car to the dealer where they will check its Computer for trouble codes and reset the check engine light. On some occasions it may be a minor problem such as a loose gas cap, though it certainly could be something more serious. In any case taking yourvehicle to the dealer for a check engine light will not be cheap.

Another way to turn off the check engine light is to simply wait it out. If the trouble that caused it to turn on in the first place is not persistent and goes away, the check engine light should go out after several driving trips. If the light stays on, however, the trouble is still with your vehicle and should be checked.

One of the best ideas is to invest in a diagnostic tool or scanner. Such a tool connects easily to your car's computer through an input under the dash near your knee. The scanner retrieves the computer's trouble codes that help diagnose the problem. It will also reset and turn off the check engine light without clearing everything else in your car's computer.

Anothernice thing about the better scanners is their ability to indicate your vehicle's been emissions status-whether you are likely to pass or fail the emissions test.

Once you you have turned off the check engine light, it is a good idea to drive your vehicle for a good fifteen minutes or so-and at highway speeds if possible. If the light comes back on, it may mean a real problem that should be checked by an ASE-certified technician.

Scanner Features and Review

Scanner Features and Review

A Scanner is a machine which recognizes optical characters. It has a Computer processor, scan head and an output device. The scan head is used to read images which in turn is translated by the Computer and produced in a usable form. For example, a scanner is used to read invoices that have been returned with the payMent checks by a direct-mail marketer. The code on the invoice is picked up by the scanner that indicates how much was owed and which customer is paying.

It is a multipurpose tool that is used in the office. It reads the images as thousands of individual pixels or dots. The scanner does all this with the help of scanning software. The file which has the images then can be used to enlarge, reduce or store databases. It can also betransferred into an excel worksheet or a word docuMent.

Scanners like digital cameras help the user convert slides and three-diMensional objects into files that can be posted on the internet, pasted into a brochure or inserted into a presentation. These images can be manipulated to fit in accordance to the space and size required.

A scanner can automatically convert information to digital files using optical character recognition software, so instead of giving money to someone to manually enter reams of data into the Computer, we can use the scanner. A scanner can also help to create electronic filing cabinets for expense reports to invoice.

There are three main types of scanners which are used in the office. They are Flatbed Scanner whichis particularly useful when required to scan more than one page of a docuMent. Instead of copying each page individually pages from a book can easily be scanned. Sheet fed Scanner is very much like a fax machine. It can easily be adjusted between the keyboard and the monitor as it is only a couple of inches deep. Lastly the Slide Scanner can only scan slides, though there are some new models on the market that can handle negative strips also.

There are scanners which are capable of reading preprinted specific fonts in alphanumeric characters, hand-printed letters or symbols or barcodes. Encoders are payment scanners. Document scanners are used to enter responses to direct-mail promotions that can read at speeds of 18.000 documents per hour. In order to read bar-codedinformation such as price, stock number and Wand scanners are used. As barcodes are used prices can be altered without doing any alteration with the price TAGs. This can be done merely by changing the instructions in the computer which interprets the barcodes.

Almost all the scanners can be connected by SCSI, USB, or ports that are parallel. The only difference among them is the speed at which they work. Common parallel ports are a little slower than the SCSI and USB ports. An automatic document feeder is of great importance for large data entry projects. All scanners as along with scanning software of different types.

The package usually has a color calibration software, driver program, and applications like image-editing programs or OCR. Cross checking the version of thesoftware is also very important as sometimes we are forced to upgrade the software in order to use it to its utmost capacity. If it has the right software scanner can also be used as a fax machine or a Xerox machine.

Buying a scanner does not hurt the pocket much, still people are going in for other equipments to keep in the office. A scanner can do much more than just scan a photograph, but is not being used to its full capability.

In frequency is the number of occurrences of a repeating event per unit time. It is most commonly thought of as a wave that goes from one place to another. The up and down crests of the wave as it moves along would be the repeating occurrences. If you change the speed of the up and down crests of the wave, you change the frequency.

The types of up and down waves cell phones use are essentially radio waves. Most cell-phone carriers typically get 832 radio frequencies to use in a particular city. Cell phone scanner frequencies are usually used in sets of two. Each cell phone uses two frequencies to call. This is known as a duplex channel. Consequently, there are typically 395voice channels per carrier.

Therefore, each cell has about 56 voice channels available. In other words, in any cell, the cell phone scanner frequencies can have 56 people talking on their cell phone at one time. These older and more basic analog cellular systems are considered first-generation mobile technology, or 1 g. With the introduction of digital transmission methods about 10 years ago (2 g), the number of available channels increases. This was known as 2 g. And now we have 3 g or third generation networks. This dramatically increases the number of channels.

Although cell phone scanner frequencies have increased, cell phones have low-power transmitters in them. Many cell phones are less powerful than the old CB radios. This does have some advanTAGes. The lowpower transmission means that the cell phone can use smaller batteries. Also, phone call transmissions stay within a city cell, near a cell tower. This means that the same cell phone scanner frequencies can be used over again in different parts of the city.

The cellular approach requires a large number of base stations in a city of any size. A typical large city can have hundreds of cell towers. But because so many people are using cell phones, costs remain low for user. Each carrier in each city also runs one central office called the Mobile Telephone Switching Office (MTSO). This office handles all of the phone connections to the normal land-based phone system, and controls all of the base stations in the region.

How to Choose Between a Motorola MC55 Handheld Device and MC75

How to Choose Between a Motorola MC55 Handheld Device and MC75

I'm often asked for recomMendations on mobile devices for proof of delivery applications and handheld data collection. If you're looking at Motorola devices, most people need help choosing between MC55, MC75 and MC9090 devices.

How to Choose Between a Motorola MC55 Handheld Device and MC75

How to Choose Between a Motorola MC55 Handheld Device and MC75

How to Choose Between a Motorola MC55 Handheld Device and MC75

This article will explain what you should consider when choosing mobile devices and will highlight real-life customer examples for field data capture and proof of delivery applications.

Before we start with criteria, it is important to understand what features you need today as well as in the future. With rugged devices, once you purchase the device, you cannot go back and add hardware options like a camera, GPS or Bluetooth. The devices we will discuss are:
MC9090 (MC909x)-these are the largest and most rugged of the 3 models. They aresupported on all carrriers (Verizon, Sprint, AT & T and T-Mobile) and have the broadest range of hardware options. These are the most expensive devices. MC75-these are mid-sized devices that Motorola targets for proof of delivery, field data capture and barcode solutions. MC55-this is the newest member of the family, has a slightly lower level of rugged design and size than MC75 's. It is the least expensive.
Questions and Criteria

You should narrow your hardware choice by asking the following questions.

Do you need cellular data? If so, what cellular carrier do you use and do you know what the data coverage is in your territories?
The reason for this is simple-some territories like the North East are completely ownedby a carrier (Verizon). If someone wants T-Mobile or AT & T coverage, they need to check or consider changing carriers. The MC55 is not currently supported on Verizon, so the choice is between an MC75 and MC9000. All devices support GSM networks (e.g. T-Mobile and AT & T). Do you want want device to cover international or outside of North America? If so, you will need to only consider GSM.
If you need cellular data, are you going to do anything that requires 3 g/3.5 G or Faster networking?
Most customers don't know the answer to this but the question becomes more clear if you are: Taking pictures-picture size can be adjusted on the mobile device, but a reasonable quality color picture would be approximately 1 MB or larger. Downloading large files, such as site plans, MSDS sheets or merchandising plan-o-grams for proof of delivery apps.

The more pictures and files, the more you should consider a 3 g device such as the MC75. Occasional picture takers could get by with a 2.5 G connection on an MC55.

Do you need to take pictures? If so, do you need high quality color pictures or can they be black and white?
This might seem like an odd question, but someone who delivers furniture or cabinets would want a higher quality color camera so they could take pictures that capture the details of a scratch. Technicians doing utility Meter installations need to take pictures of Meters to confirm the initial Meter reading. These can be black and white and therefore can be done with the 2D imager (> scanner) versus a separate room. Smaller black and white Ph Meter installations or other field device installations such as oil field equipMent, you may need to capture GPS coordinates at the point of service. Note that if you need sub Meter accuracy, you will need to get an external GPS unit or do post-processing.
We recomMend getting GPS on devices even if you don't need it now. One company purchased 250 devices without GPS-they did not want the additional expense with their purchase. When they picked up a new lineof business, it required them to dispatch the closest driver, so they had to add an external GPS solution which was more expensive than purchasing GPS on the device. Both the MC55 and MC75 have GPS as an option. MC9000 devices generally don't have GPS except through external adapters.

Do you need serial port connections on the device or in the vehicle mount?

The MC55 is targeted at basic route accounting users. The MC55 vehicle cradle does not have a built-in serial port. Examples of where this applies are: serial cable connection to the GPS or JBus vehicle (vehicle diagnostics), fuel delivery meters or external communication devices. The MC75 and MC9000 vehicle cradles have a built-in serial port. Their cradle is more expensive than the MC55 cradle byapproximately $ -200.
Do you need barcode scanning?
All devices support barcode scanning. The only decision is whether you need 1 d/2D or long-range. 2D scanners can be helpful if you have barcodes that may get dirty or damaged. Examples of this include plant nursery where 2D barcodes may be easier to read due to dirt on the barcode label. Long range scanners can scan barcodes up to 40 ' away. Long range scanners are only available on the MC909x platform. Examples of long range scanning would be scanning the barcode at the top of a warehouse rack from a forklift.
Do you need RFID?
If you need RFID, your only option is an MC9090. Note that RFID enabled devices are significantly more expensive.
Do you have specificruggedness requirements? Will you be dealing with harsh environments?
The MC9000 is the most rugged device. It has the best drop spec (6 ' to concrete) and the best IPS (intrusion protection) rating. The MC75 is plenty rugged and designed for field delivery applications (5 ' to concrete). The MC55 is close to, but not as rugged as the MC75. It is designed for the field but not for harsh environments. Examples of harsher environments would be where you work outside in the rain or dirt-such as oil field services, agriculture or bulk product delivery such as fuel, lubes, chemicals or fertilizer to tanks outside.
What size keypad do you need? What type of input will the keypad be used for? Do you need a pistol grip?
The MC55 and MC75 both havesimilar sized keypads. They are larger than a BlackBerry but the size of the device shell is fixed. The MC9000 comes in a short version (MC9090S), a long version (MC9090K) and a gun/pistol grip (MC9090G). The keypads on MC9000 's are larger than the MC75 or MC55. If drivers use gloves (such as fuel delivery) then it would be worth comparing the MC9000 to the MC75. If you perform a lot of scanning, you should consider a pistol grip, which is only available on the MC9000.

Know which device is right for you? The following highlights examples of using each type of device.

Kindle Fire-Review

The Fire is designed primarily as a media consumption device which runs on a modified version of the Android OS. Does the Kindle Fire have what it takes to scorch the competition in the tablet world and be the tablet to beat or does it fall short? Read on to find out.

Features of the Kindle Fire

7 inch color touch screen (IPS) (display resolution 1024 x 6000) 8 GB internal storage memory, 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi connectivity Amazon Cloud for unlimited storageof Lightweight, weighs just content 413 grams per single charge provides up to 8 hours of usage, Headphone jack, built-in stereo Speakers Free 1 month trial of Amazon Prime

Design

The Kindle Fire bears a strong resemblance to the BlackBerry Playbook in terms of the weight and feel of the device. The design itself is very streamlined, including just a power button on the unit. With its relatively small diMensions of 7.5 x 4.7 x 0.45 inches, the Fire is small enough to fit in a pocket or be reasonably sized held one-handed.

Display

The 7-inch multi-touch display with IPS (in plane switching) provides a maximum resolution of 1024 x 600 at 16 million colors. The ISP technology used provides an excellent range of viewingangles, allowing the display to be viewed at 178° and greater.

Despite having a lower resolution than the iPad, text on the Fire's display looks crisp and sharp. The display doesn't use e-Ink technology though however, so if you want a Kindle primarily for reading I recomMend one of the earlier models which feature an e-Ink display to minimize eye strain over extended periods.

Connectivity

The Fire isn't too strong on the connectivity front. There is support for Wi-Fi, but no support for Bluetooth, 3 g or GPS. The headphone jack is very handy for when you want to Watch movies or listen to music in private.

User-interface

Amazon has taken a leaf from Apple's book and opted for simplicity when designing the Fire. Theuser-interface is very simple and provides easy navigation via the touch screen. There is a screen to flip through all your digital content plus an icon tray to store your favourite items.

Final Thoughts

When all is said and done, the Kindle Fire isn't an iPad killer, but it sure packs a punch with its spec and is a great entry for Amazon into the tablet market. The lack of cameras, extra internal storage options and 3 g connectivity will be off-putting to some people who are after a full-fledged tablet experience, but for many who are after a pure media consumption device, what the Fire delivers will suffice.

OBD1 Codes Secrets for Domestic Vehicles

OBD1 Codes Secrets for Domestic Vehicles

For vehicles made after 1996, retrieving the check engine codes of the light in your dash panel is simple. All you need to do is find your diagnostic connector located under the dash by the drivers side. You can then hook up a scanner and the codes will be displayed for you. If you don't have any scanner like most drivers, you can bring your vehicle to any local automotive parts store and they will usually scan the codes FREE for you. However, for vehicles made on or before 1995, there is only one cheap way to get it: You do it yourself!

OBD1 Codes Secrets for Domestic Vehicles

On board diagnostic (OBD) was designed on vehicles equipped with electronic fuel injection so you can generally retrieve the codes yourself. No need buying a scanner or running to any parts stores to check the enginelight. This system is called obd1 and applies to most vehicles made before 1995 for domestics and 1993 on imports. In this article, I will discuss the methods used by domestic vehicle manufacturers on how to check the engine lights on their cars and trucks.

For GM domestic vehicles made before 1995, the diagnostic connector is located under the dash panel by the driver side. To get the check engine codes to flash in your dash panel, use a jumper wire or paper clip and connect terminals A and B of the diagnostic connector. Turn your ignition key on with engine off and the codes should start to blink. All codes should start with code 12 which is one long flash followed by 2 short flashes. This code 12 means the diagnostic system is normal and will repeat itself continuously if thereare no trouble codes. Otherwise, code 12 will flash 3 times before flashing the fault codes.

Ford owners can check their check engine light using the diagnostic connector located at the engine compartMent by the fender near the battery. Getting the obd1 codes need a couple of tools: a 4 inch long gage 16 jumper wire and a 12 volt test light.
Both tools are hooked up to the diagnostic connector and when the ignition key is turned on (without starting engine) the codes will begin to flash in the test light, not in the dash panel. If there is no code, you will normally get code 11 or 111. On Fords, there are 2 modes, the KOEO test (key on engine off) and the KOER (key on engine running). Both test modes should be used to get the accurate evaluation of the stored faultcodes.

Of all the 3 domestic vehicles, the easiest method to check the engine light is Chrysler products. Why? Because all you need is to turn the ignition key on and off within 5 seconds and the codes will start to flash in the dash panel.

Counting the codes being flashed is almost the same for these 3 domestic vehicles and most of the codes can be erased or cleared by disconnecting the battery negative terminal for 1 minute and reconnect. Just make sure to check your service manual in case you have electronic equipMent such as radio or clock that needs reprogramming in which battery disconnection is not recomMended. Finally after performing repAirs on the culprit code, always go for a road test to confirm if the problem is fixed.

Before You Buy - What to Look For in a Photo Slide Scanner

Before You Buy - What to Look For in a Photo Slide Scanner

If you are looking to digitize your old memories by transferring all your old photographs on the Computer, and maybe playing with them in Photoshop, you need to invest in a good scanner. While the conventional scanners you see on Computer desks everywhere (i.e., flatbed scanner) are great if you have just a dozen or so photographs to scan, it you are serious about digitizing and preserving all your old memories handed down through generations (which can amount to literally 10,000s of photographs), you would want to invest in a photo slide scanner.

Photo slide scanners can set you back by anything from 0 to 00. You might've seen the more expensive variety at your workplace or in your school/college. These usually have multiple attachMents to help scan hundreds of photos or docuMents at a time and can be a huge time saver in large settings. For the purpose of scanning old family photographs, however, an entry level photo slide scanner would do.

Where photo slide scanners really shine is in their image scan quality. While regular flatbed scanners will give you a grainy, blurry scan (not to mention that it'll take ages to scan a photograph), these scanners will give you a much higher quality, almost as if the photo was taken directly through a digital camera.

A very important tip to keep in mind when you go to purchase your photo slide scanner is to make sure that whatever model you choose supports the slide size that you will be scanning. If the scanner cannot accommodate your photographs, it wouldn't make any sense to buy it, for obvious reasons. Most scanners will have a list of what they support, and while you can still go ahead and scan an unsupported slide, you will get much lower quality, making the enTire investment useless.

If you are serious about preserving your memories and have a huge library of pictures to scan, investing in a photo slide scanner is the smartest way to go about it. You'll save tons of time while getting fabulous scan quality.
